Info
Very dry spring, no winter moisture, virtually no rain until June. Hot July and August, weak growth, also delayed ripening due to dryness, beginning of harvest at the end of August. More concentration in the wines due to small berries.
The grapes for the lime and slate come from sites at the northern end of the Leithagebirge, around Jois.
Pinot Blanc dominates this cuvée with 2/3 of the quantity. Grüner Veltliner is in the minority.
Color
Sparkling straw yellow with green reflections
Nose
In this young stage, the reduction still puts its stamp on the white lime & slate. You have to like that. Many people love it. Because in this form it already looks sexy and wild. Attractive and captivating. Fennel, green peas, coriander seeds and artichoke characterise it. Vegetable and ethereal nuances keep the fruit in check. Some wild herbs and nettle clearly support this. The fruit has exotic hints of mango and grilled pineapple. But rather it lives on local fruit, somewhere between pear and mirabelle.
Palate
On the palate, it already shows its great drinking pleasure. The wildness remains. A fine phenolic structure provides it with backbone, bitterness and a delicate tannin structure. The acidity leads it like a red thread through to the finish. It leaves almost no room for the fruit. Much more, the vegetal, ethereal and herbal aromas come to the fore. This is a snapshot and I expect an exciting development.
