IRAILA Garnacha 2020

Iraila 2020 is a single-varietal Garnacha from two vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonisierra. The municipality is located north of the Ebro River, where the soils are calcareous, and belongs to the Rioja Alta zone. In contrast to the past, Garnacha is rarely grown in this area. In the course of the so-called "New Garnacha Wave", the grape variety is experiencing a renaissance in Spain and also in Rioja. One can only be grateful for this development, because with the first vintage of 2020 from Iraila, a unique red wine has already been created that is on a par with the great Garnachas from Gredos and Priorat. The wine is matured in small oak barrels and in 400-litre amphorae. With Iraila, the Remirez de Ganuza winery proves that it is not only able to press great style wines à la Reserva and Gran Reserva, but also exciting wines characterised by terroir.

Transparent cherry red

Iraila 2020 has a typical Garnacha nose with red fruits and floral aromas. However, in terms of intensity, depth and crispness, this bouquet is almost unique even for Garnacha. This fragrant and sensual bouquet is something you want to smell forever.

Iraila breathes the spirit of the new Spain freshness before maturity, and delicacy before opulence. The red wine has a terrific tension, is crisp fresh, punchy and lean, and on the palate of a complexity, intensity and length rarely found. The finish lingers for minutes. Iraila stands for filigree elegance, fine tannins and peppery spice. This brilliantly balanced red wine has a unique personality and is quite different in style from the densely structured and powerful Reservas usually known from Remirez de Ganuza.
