In addition to its native Franconia, the Silvaner or Grüner Sylvaner, as it is also called in southern Rheinhessen, has found a centuries-old home in the Wonnegau. Grown on chalky soils, it always has a herbaceous spiciness here and is well suited to creative vegetable cuisine. The wine was fermented spontaneously bone-dry and matured in steel.
Light straw yellow with green reflections.
The 2020 Grüner Sylvaner from Battenfeld-Spanier is yellow-fruited and juicy. Notes of nectarines and small yellow pears outline the nose, which is balanced by spring-fresh kitchen herbs such as goutweed or sorrel. Freshly brewed green tea and a bouquet of meadow flowers make the wheel go round.
Crystal clear with juicy fruit and piquant herbal spice, the Grüner Sylvaner flows in crystalline flow over the taster's palate. Focused and precise, everything is in the right place here, the fruit flanked by tart phenolic, the ripe acidity perfectly integrated.
