Color
In light lemon yellow with discreet white-golden reflexes the wine shows itself clear and shining in the glass.
Nose
It is gratefully received when something comes across as classic and expected and is thus a bit timeless;
but at the same time always bright and contemporary, and thus equally coherent.
Floral notes of marigolds, daisies and dandelion bed down on yellow apple, quince and fresh plum. Hints of buttermilk, cardamom and fennel seeds add their tips.
Palate
On the palate, the Christmann family's 2018 Pinot Gris is frugal, open-minded and life-affirming. With restrained, yet bright acidity and a slender body, it makes no secret of being mother-in-law's favorite. He's honest, but not brash. He stands by himself and his opinion, but is not persistent or even irascible. He is uncomplicated but always reliable.
We all need a wine like this.
