Wine Description for Meunier sur Sable non dosé 2022 by Jérôme Blin

Colour & Appearance
Delicate rosé hues shimmer in the glass with this Champagne, the perlage rises fine and even – a visual harbinger of the elegance to come.
Nose
The bouquet shifts fascinatingly between seriousness and joie de vivre. Just-ripened apricots and peaches meet the freshness of lemons and grapefruits with skin. Alongside this, crushed chalk, which reveals the mineral provenance, as well as rhubarb, pomegranate juice, liquorice and a hint of almond syrup.
Palate
The attack is seductively round and silky, then develops into serious structure. The texture becomes increasingly drier and chalky. Alongside the native stone fruits and citrus fruits, notes of ripe mango and Indian spices emerge. Despite zero dosage, there is a subtle extract sweetness and a discreet vanilla-oak note from the barrel ageing. A complex, complete Champagne that combines depth with untroubled drinking pleasure.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from sandy Eocene soils, which lend the Meunier a particular lightness and finesse. The 50-year-old vines bring the necessary concentration and complexity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Pinot Meunier, half aged in barrique, half in stainless steel. Vinified without malolactic fermentation, lightly filtered but unfiltered. Tirage in April 2023, disgorging in April 2024. Zero dosage. Only 2,705 bottles.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Pairs excellently with roasted monkfish, scallops, calf’s sweetbreads or creamy goat’s cheese. Also an excellent choice with smoked salmon or oysters.
Special Features
A rare example of Meunier’s quality as a solo performer. Jérôme Blin demonstrates that this often underestimated grape variety produces extraordinary Champagnes when given artisanal vinification and old vines.
