Wine Description for Bourgogne „Clos de la Perrière“ Blanc Monopole AOP 2022 from Clos du Moulin aux Moines
- Colour & Appearance
- Rich golden yellow with radiant reflections – a Chardonnay that reveals its maturity and substance already in the glass.
- Nose
- An aromatic kaleidoscope that opens with citrus notes of grapefruit, green mandarin and cedarwood. These are joined by orange blossom and dried limes, whilst wet slate and hay flowers lay the mineral foundation. Balsamic accents of linseed oil, hazelnut shells and crème noisette lend depth, accompanied by dried quinces. Complex, multifaceted and vinified with noticeably reduced sulphur.
- Palate
- Creamy entry with liquorice and once again crème noisette, before a pronounced minerality disciplines and structures the generous character. The nature is expansive and soft, the aromatics rich: anise, chervil and tarragon run through the dense extract. A delicately saline minerality grounds the wine and lends it spicy-herbal contours.
- Finish
- Pronounced and long-lasting with spicy, mineral notes that resonate for a considerable time.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Clos de la Perrière lies south of Puligny-Montrachet in the village of Corpeau. The three-hectare monopoly vineyard site is surrounded by an ancient stone wall and rests on sandy-silty limestone with southerly exposure, which favours early ripening. Despite its privileged location between the great white wine appellations, the wine is classified as Bourgogne – a quality wine with a regional label.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Chardonnay from vines planted in 1972 and 1979, hand-harvested and sorted in the vineyard. Slow pressing with controlled oxidation, spontaneous fermentation in a large wooden vat. Ten months of ageing without bâtonnage or racking, bottled unfiltered and unfined. Biodynamic viticulture with horse ploughing and minimalist cellar techniques – winemaking in its purest form.
- Food Pairings
- Roasted turbot with nut butter, scallops with celeriac cream, lobster or langoustines, poultry in cream sauce, Comté or Beaufort from extended ageing.
- Special Features
- Monopoly vineyard site of a historic Cistercian monastery with over 1,000 years of winemaking tradition. Farmed biodynamically, minimal sulphur and new oak usage (10-15%). An authentic, unadorned Burgundy with transparent fruit and vibrant energy.
