Wine Description for Château de Pibarnon Rosé AOC 2023 1500ml Magnum by Château de Pibarnon

Character
Château de Pibarnon belongs to those rare addresses in Provence that restore seriousness to rosé. This wine is substance-rich and structured, far removed from the pale summer drinks that flood the market. The magnum bottle underscores the ambition: this is a rosé for the table, not for the pool. The high Mourvèdre content gives it depth, tension and ageing potential – qualities rarely sought in rosés, yet found here.
Terroir & Origin
Pibarnon is located in the Bandol region, more precisely in the steep hillside vineyards above the coast, where chalky soils and maritime influences create a special microclimate. The vineyards sit at 300 metres elevation with views across the Mediterranean – a position that combines cool breezes with Mediterranean warmth. These terraced vineyards demand manual labour and dedication, which is reflected in the concentration and minerality of the wine. The Bandol terroir is Mourvèdre country par excellence, and even in the rosé, the chalk-defined precision is evident.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Mourvèdre dominates the blend and brings that spicy complexity which distinguishes Pibarnon rosés from others: red fruits, herbal notes, fine tannin structure. Cinsault complements with freshness and elegance. Vinification follows traditional methods with gentle pressing and controlled fermentation to preserve aromatic purity. At 13.5% alcohol, the wine shows maturity yet balance – a rosé that convinces not through lightness, but through precision and drinkability.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This rosé calls for Mediterranean cuisine with substance: bouillabaisse, grilled sea bass, ratatouille or lamb cutlets with Provençal herbs. Also an excellent choice with seafood risotto, tuna tataki or goat’s cheese. The structure certainly allows for heartier dishes than usual – think paella or tagine.
