Info

This Chardonnay is rooted on the eastern slopes of the Leitha Mountains. The soils there are rich in both limestone and slate. The majority comes from the Spiegel and Alter Berg sites in Winden. The Edelgraben and Zwergsbreiten sites in Breitenbrunn complete it.

After several hours of maceration, spontaneous fermentation and malolactic fermentation took place. It was allowed to mature for seven months on the fine lees in large, neutral oak barrels to perfection.

Nose

Wild but very precise structure on the nose. Chopped almonds are at the forefront, along with unripe figs and apple blossom. The nuttiness is enormously appealing. The fruit seems restrained but impetuous. White currants next to yellow apples dominate here. A little apple skin provides a pleasant complement. Wild herbs, some oregano, sage and parsley complement it. White pepper and roasted fennel seeds add plenty of spice. Fennel and fresh peas provide freshness and vegetal accents.

Palate

On the palate, it shows that it wants to seamlessly follow up on these impressions. Wild and spicy. Taut, clear and precise. The nuttiness is pleasantly balanced. It is enormously pithy and lives from a high tightness. The bitterness is in perfect harmony with the fruit and acidity. An enormously animating wine that never fills you up. In the finish, all the wild, ethereal and vegetal nuances come back into full swing. For me, the skin of red apples characterises the aromas in the best possible way.
