Tasting note
Colour & appearance
Pale, bright yellow with silver reflections and a fine, persistent bead.
Nose
An equilateral triangle of citrus, salt and austere minerality. Floral notes of lemon and orange blossom open the bouquet, followed by Granny Smith and Abate pears. Alongside this, a distinctly saline note, sea breeze, hints of oyster shell and wet pebbles.
Palate
Citrusy, grippy and austere, it dusts the palate: with precisely chiselled acidity, it is bone-dry, displaying a salty character and powdery phenolics. The mousse is finely beaded, underscoring the vibrant aura of this razor-sharp Chenin Blanc.
Finish
Long and chalky-cool, with lingering citrus fruit and mineral presence. A Crémant that positively invites you to drink thirstily.
Terroir & origin
The vineyards of Domaine Vincendeau are situated on the Corniche Angevine, a protected steep slope above Rochefort-sur-Loire. Beneath one’s feet: green and purple schist, spilitite and phthanite of volcanic origin, interspersed with quartz. These poor, stony soils limit yields to a maximum of 45 hectolitres per hectare.
Grape variety & vinification
Chenin Blanc from vines aged between ten and eighty years. Harvested in early September 2023, bottled on 9 April 2024 and subsequently aged on the lees for 24 months before being disgorged with a dosage of 3 g/l. At 11.5% abv, this Crémant stands out for its tension, depth and clarity.
Food recommendations
Perfect with oysters, seafood or smoked fish. Also an excellent choice with goat’s cheese or as an aperitif.
Special features
While regulations for Crémant de Loire require only nine months of lees ageing, this wine rests for a full 24 months in Saumur’s renowned tuffeau cellars. The result is a Crémant of breathtaking complexity and precision.
