Wine information
For this wine, Boris Champy used Pinot Noir from the En Bignon parcel in Bouze-les-Beaune. The parcel is located at 421 metres above sea level. Its soil is characterised by red clay and limestone marl. Boris Champy's vineyards were partly planted in the 1980s with a vine density of over 10,000, using lyre and Guyot training. Because of the vintage in which Botryrtis was available, he completely de-stemmed the grapes, treated the styles with sulphur and formed a millefeuille from layers of de-stemmed grapes and rape to ferment the grapes. He extracted gently and aged the wine in barrels for twelve months, but a portion of 15 % in new wood.
Color
slightly transparent medium ruby red
Nose
Boris Champys Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune "Altitude 421 En Bignon" 2021 presents itself fine and fragrant with floral notes. They lie over notes of plums, black cherries and sweet cherries, red currants and cranberries. The wine shows both sides of the Pinot Noir, namely the fragrant dark fruity as well as the sweet and earthy. They are accompanied by a skilful use of wood.
Palate
On the palate the Altitude 421 an athlete. One thinks of the triathlon "Ironman", for example. The Pinot has not a gram of fat too much, it shows itself athletic until the finish. At the same time, it is a delicate wine with a lively acidity, a bright and fine fruit with a discreet phenolic and with virtually zero extraction.
