Info

Vietti's Barolo Riserva, produced for the first time with the 2015 vintage, is the result of a "selection of the selection". While regularly tasting and composing the blend of our Barolo' Castiglione', some wines - vinified from individual vineyard parcels - have always caught the team's eye in a positive way.
They stood out for their pronounced intensity, coupled with elegance and a solid tannin structure, and thus bring with them the best prerequisites for good ageing potential. This is how the idea of the Barolo Riserva was born. Only 5,000 bottles of the 2015 vintage were bottled.

The grapes used to produce the 2015 vintage of this wine come from various plots in excellent Barolo MGA sites, all located in the area of the municipality of Castiglione Falletto.

Calcareous marl soils form the base. Wire-frame vine training with an average planting density of about 4,500 vines/hectare. Average age of the vines between 25 and 45 years.

The grapes, harvested by hand at the beginning of October 2015, were vinified and vinified separately - plot by plot. After gentle destemming, the must was transferred to stainless steel tanks for a short cold maceration. Must fermentation with
regular overpumping. Towards the end of the alcoholic fermentation, the marc cap was submerged, beginning the post-fermentative maceration phase. In total, the wine was in contact with the skins for an average of three to four weeks. Malolactic fermentation in wood.

Afterwards, the wines - still separated according to their origin - were matured in large wooden barrels for about 30 months. The final assemblage of the Barolo Riserva then took place.

Nose

The 2015 Barolo Riserva makes it immediately clear why one should give certain wines time. Sour cherry and morello cherry vie for supremacy. Ripe plum, elderberry and blackberry are found in the second row. A delicate hint of liquorice comes around the corner. This dark and refreshing note at the same time is uniquely good. Freshly ground pepper provides balsamic spice. Juniper, fir twigs as well as sage and rosemary put it in an ethereal envelope. But always accompanied by the dark nuances of chestnut, walnut and hazelnut.

Palate

Already at the first moment, it reveals its potential for the perfect symbiosis. Even though the Riserva has already had more than 7 years to mature, this giant is still a long way from reaching its goal. Slowly, however, it is waking up. Its potential is far from exhausted. The tannin is fine-grained and melting. Its acid structure is pleasantly dosed, but still really packs a punch. The fruit is dark and appealing. The spicy aromas dominate the field. Accents from the earthy as well as the ethereal corner keep flowing to the centre. The dark fruit unites all this and bundles it for a long future.
