Wine Description for Barolo DOCG 2021 375ml by Vietti

Character
The Barolo from Vietti embodies everything that defines the „King of Italian Wines“: structural depth, aristocratic austerity and a longevity that is unparalleled. The vintage 2021 is regarded in Piedmont as classic and well-balanced – with sufficient warmth for ripeness and enough coolness for freshness and tension. In the practical 375ml bottle, this great wine unfolds in a more intimate setting, without losing any of its character.
Terroir & Origin
The Langhe hills in southern Piedmont are the heart of the Barolo growing region. The characteristic Torcianese and Helvetian soils – sometimes calcareous-clayey, sometimes sandy and mineral – give Nebbiolo its unmistakable complexity. Vietti, based in Castiglione Falletto, has managed some of the most renowned vineyard sites in the entire appellation for generations and is among the few estates that interpret the entire mosaic of Barolo terroir with deep historical understanding.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Nebbiolo is one of the most demanding grape varieties in the world: late-ripening, thin-skinned and yet rich in tannin, acidity and colour pigments. Vietti combines traditional craftsmanship with modern precision thinking in its cellar – long maceration periods and careful ageing in large wooden casks (Slavonian oak) are characteristic of the estate’s style. The result is a wine that rewards patience and gains in depth and elegance with the years.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine of this calibre calls for the cuisine of Piedmont: Brasato al Barolo, Tajarin with white truffle or a mature piece of Fassona beef are classic companions. The wine also harmonises beautifully with aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno. Those drinking it young should decant it generously – or simply wait a few more years.
