Wine Description for Auxerrois Chardonnay Löss und Lehm 2024 by Michael Andres

Colour & Appearance
Sparkling, pale yellow with pronounced green reflections – a youthful, vibrant impression in the glass that promises freshness and vitality.
Nose
Here the signature of the soils reveals itself immediately: mineral notes and a distinctive matchstick reduction give the wine tension and character. Beneath this unfolds an elegant fruit play of green apple, quince and vineyard peach, complemented by floral hints of linden blossom, delicate orange zest, almonds and a whisper of anise. Complex and multifaceted.
Palate
Juicy and invigorating at once – this wine plays with contrasts. A delicately saline note underscores the mineral origin, whilst an inspiring acidity ensures drinking flow. The fruit stands clearly in the foreground, yet in the finish a surprisingly creamy texture emerges, lending depth without weighing down.
Finish
Medium-length with lingering freshness, the acidity remains present, the fruit fades elegantly – a wine that invites you to the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The name is the programme: loess and clay from the Palatinate shape this wine distinctly. The soils lend it its characteristic minerality and structure, whilst the mild climate of the region provides ripe, balanced fruit.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A thoughtfully crafted cuvée of Auxerrois and Chardonnay – the Burgundian cousins complement each other perfectly. The Auxerrois contributes fullness and creaminess, the Chardonnay structure and elegance. At 12.5% alcohol, the wine remains inviting and light-footed.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A versatile companion: excellent with goat’s cheese, scallops, trout meunière, asparagus dishes or herb-roasted chicken breast. Also a good choice with Asian dishes of moderate spice. Works equally well solo as an aperitif.
Special Features
An everyday wine in the best sense – fantastic value for money with considerable complexity. Michael Andres proves that Palatinate white wines can do far more than simply please. An honest, characterful wine for daily enjoyment.
