The Domaine Chandon de Briailles was founded in Savigny les Beaune in 1834 and has been managed by François de Nicolay and his sister Claude since 2001. Since 1998, the vineyard has been worked exclusively organically until 2005, when the next step was the conversion to biodynamics. After a conversion phase, Chandon de Briailles has been completely certified biodynamic since 2011. The estate cultivates 14 hectares of its own vineyards and is exclusively planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The Premier Cru site Les Valozières is located between the Grand Cru sites Corton Bressandes and Corton Paulands. The 0.28 hectares were planted in 1987. The topsoil is characterized by clay, in the subsoil there is a lot of limestone with gravel inclusions.
Color
Dark ruby red, transparent and clear.
Nose
On the nose, it initially shows itself with noble understatement and takes its time before revealing more of itself bit by bit. Then it chats in a quiet but firm voice about red fruits, more schematically than in detail, and about a certain spiciness. The scent of undergrowth mixes with autumnal woods and dried leaves, and delicate floral notes hover above it all.
Mouth
On the nose, the 2018 Les Valozières Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru from Domaine Chandon de Briailles is more concrete than on the palate. The tannin has a structuring effect on the palate and guides its profound power into regulated channels. Garnished with a melange of red and black fruits, it pulsates on the palate with enormous thrust, the acidity ripe and supportive, the aging in wood donates mild spices and a touch of sandalwood in the finish. Powerful and gripping, this is a magnificent Premier Cru with the best potential for immediate enjoyment as well as after several years of bottle ageing.
