Wine Description for Vera Cruz AOP 2022 by Luneau-Papin

Colour & Appearance
Intense straw yellow with vibrant, slightly green reflections – a visual promise of freshness and vitality.
Nose
This Muscadet brings its terroir to the glass with impressive clarity. The nose opens with sea breeze and iodine, followed by crisp green apples, greengage plums and white peach. Beneath lies a mineral layer of slightly oily slate, accentuated by a hint of white pepper and delicate white flowers.
Palate
On the palate, Vera Cruz reveals surprisingly more power and a more exotic side than the nose suggests. Mango cordial, ripe pears and lemon oil meet stony minerality. The peppery acidity is characteristic of Muscadet and is accompanied by fine phenolics and iodine notes on the finish – a wine that doesn’t hide its maritime character.
Finish
Medium length with persistent minerality, saline freshness and a fine phenolic structure that gives the wine grip.
Terroir & Origin
The Vera Cruz vineyard in the village of Vallet was planted in 1974 and sits on mica schist and gneiss of the Armorican Massif. This geological particularity gives the wine its pronounced mineral signature and makes it an authentic expression of its origin.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Melon de Bourgogne, hand-harvested and pneumatically pressed. Spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, followed by seven months on the lees in underground, glass-lined cement vats. No racking until bottling – a purist vinification that gives the wine texture and complexity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Made for oysters, scallops and seafood of all kinds. Excellent with grilled sea bass, goat’s cheese or sushi. The saline minerality makes it the ideal companion for fish soups and bouillabaisse.
Special Features
A Muscadet with depth and personality, demonstrating that this often underestimated appellation is capable of great precision and expressiveness. The old vines and the exceptional terroir make this wine more than a simple oyster companion.
