Doña Blanca

Also known as: Dona Branca, Moza Fresca (Galicia, Bierzo)

A white wine variety from northwestern Spain that has long stood in the shadow of Godello and has only been rediscovered in recent years. Doña Blanca produces wines with restrained acidity and a soft, almost creamy mouthfeel – a counterpoint to the tension of Godello. The variety has potential for depth, but is often underestimated because it doesn’t display loud aromas.

At Sangarida in Bierzo, they work with old vines on slate soils and give the variety time – both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The wines develop a subtle complexity that doesn’t reveal itself immediately, but rather opens up on the second, third glass.
