Wine Description for La Yegua 2021 by Sangarida

Colour & Appearance
Luminous pale yellow with brilliant clarity – a wine that reveals its Atlantic freshness already in the glass.
Nose
Remarkably clear and invigorating. Citrus fruits and quinces dominate the bouquet, underpinned by pronounced stony minerality. The nose is bright, precise and unmistakably Atlantic in character – the cool 2021 vintage has left its mark here.
Palate
Acidity-driven and with gripping grip. Peach and citrus aromas meet a crisp acidity that lends the wine structure and tension. The texture is elegant and silky, the line straightforward and focused. The oak integrates seamlessly and contributes to complexity without ever becoming obtrusive. A juicy, fresh white wine with pronounced personality and excellent balance.
Finish
Spicy and lingering, with fine salinity that invites you to take another sip. The acidity remains present and calls for food pairing.
Terroir & Origin
From Bierzo, a region with the largest stock of old vines in all of Europe. The Godello grapes come from vineyards at 550 and 650 metres altitude, which gives the wine its freshness and precision. The Atlantic influences are perceptible in every sip.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A fascinating cuvée of 50% Godello and 50% Doña Blanca each. The latter is an insider grape variety, whose vines here are 114 to 123 years old – an oenological treasure. Co-fermentation in used oak barrels, followed by 12 months ageing on fine lees in 228- and 500-litre barrels. The result: texture and complexity without oak dominance.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The lively acidity calls for accompaniment: ceviche, tabbouleh, grilled fish or goat’s cheese. Also an excellent choice with oysters or scallops.
Special Features
A project by the renowned winery Attis from Rias Baixas. The use of Doña Blanca vines over 100 years old makes this wine a rarity with extraordinary depth and authenticity.
