Cortese

The Cortese grape variety has its home in Piedmont, where it is valued above all for its lively, almost steely acid structure. Famous for the wines of Gavi, the variety shows a fine, understated aromatic profile in the glass, reminiscent of green apple, citrus blossom and delicate almond notes. Its strength lies in a clean, salty freshness that enlivens the palate without feeling heavy. This precise acidity makes Cortese a wonderful food companion for fine fish dishes and predestines it as a structure-giving partner in sophisticated cuvées.

How harmoniously this backbone combines with other Piedmontese varieties is demonstrated by the Valfaccenda winery. In their white cuvée »bis-lacco«, the herbal warmth of Arneis meets the cool freshness of Cortese, coaxing a wonderful finesse from the sandy soils of the Roero.
