Brustiano

The Brustiano grape variety is a well-kept secret of the Corsican wine world, a rare, white specialty that had almost completely vanished from the scene. On the wind-swept granite soils of the island, it develops a fine, herbal spice and a firm phenolics, reminiscent of dried herbs and ripe citrus fruits. Brustiano brings a wonderful texture and depth to white cuvées without pushing itself into the foreground; it lends the wine structure, a long finish, and a fine, salty play on the palate.

How harmoniously this historic grape integrates into the structure of top Corsican wines is demonstrated by Abbatucci in the Diplomate d’Empire Blanc. Here, Brustiano enters into a congenial alliance with Bianco Gentile and Vermentino. The result is a wine of great inner serenity and complex aromatics, bringing the wild maquis of the island vividly to life in the glass.
