Weinbeschreibung für Saint-Romain “La Combe Bazin” AOC 2022 3000ml Doppel-Magnum von Rougeot Père & Fils

Character
An authentic Burgundian Chardonnay from Saint-Romain, the often underestimated appellation hidden in the hills behind Meursault and Auxey-Duresses. Rougeot Père & Fils vinifies a wine here that is Freshness and minerality over opulent fullness - a philosophy that corresponds to the cooler microclimate of the higher-lying vineyards. The double magnum bottle size also promises a Optimum maturing over the coming years.
Terroir & origin
Saint-Romain is situated at an altitude of 300 to 400 metres and is one of the coolest sites of the Côte de Beaune. The vineyards of La Combe Bazin benefit from calcareous soils with a high stone content, which give the Chardonnay that Crisp acidity and stony minerality for which this appellation is known. While its famous neighbours Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet often achieve higher prices, Saint-Romain offers a Honest, terroir-influenced Burgundy experience without frills.
Grape variety & vinification
Chardonnay shows its Burgundian soul here: restrained, precise, with tension. Rougeot Père & Fils, a family business with roots in Meursault, works traditionally and respectfully. Despite climatic challenges, the 2022 vintage brought concentrated grapes with a good acid structure emerge. Vinification is presumably carried out with moderate use of wood in order to preserve the Fruit clarity and freshness typical of the style of serious Saint-Romain producers. With 13% alcohol, the wine remains elegant and easy to drink.
Food pairing suggestions
This Chardonnay calls for uncomplicated but high-quality cuisine: fried sea fish, Scallops, Poultry in cream sauce or a ripe Comté. The lively acidity makes it the ideal accompaniment to Oysters or Goat cheese. Also to Risotto with mushrooms or Quiche Lorraine an excellent choice - dishes that emphasise the Burgundian grounding of the wine.
