Wine information

The so-called Lene of the Pfingstbach once gave the Oestrich vineyard its name. The early morning mist from the flowing water at the foot of the vineyard always provided early morning mist. This now spreads botrytis, which is why this site produces mainly noble sweet Rieslings, but especially residually sweet Rieslings. In this Spätlese, however, there is no botrytis at all. Harvested at 92 º Oechsle. Fermented spontaneously to 9 % alcohol. 71.9 grams of residual sugar with 6.9 grams of acidity.

Nose

The Oestricher Lenchen has given the Kühns wonderful residual sweet wines in 2018. This already starts with the Kabinett and continues with this 9 %-Spätlese. On the nose, the wine is elegant and restrained. White fruit is served on a bed of lanolin. There is also a hint of stone in the base. So there is only a little foreshadowing in the aroma of what follows.

Palate

On the palate, the Spätlese is just as balanced as the Kabinett. Sweetness and acidity pulsate together, only that there is even more fruit here, that the wine shows its elbows a little more and that the stony spiciness as well as the deep minerality are even more concise. Ripe stone and stone fruit combine with yellow and orange citrus notes that have a zesty impact. This Spätlese impresses not least with its immensely silky and highly elegant texture. The wine virtually floats over the tongue, and yet you can feel its depth and inherent power.
