Wine information

This wine is part of the exclusive Vinaturel vintners' edition with the VDP vintners Kühn, Busch and Luckert. Each of them is a Riesling from a top vineyard, which is released as a reserve wine only after 36 months of storage in wooden barrels and in the bottle. His Großes Gewächs from the Jungfer is the third exclusive Großes Gewächs from Peter Jakob Kühn at Vinaturel. The wine is on the same level as the PJK unique wines.

This part of the Hallgartener Jungfer lies directly above the Doosberg. The soil is erosion material from the Rheingau Mountains with a high quartzite content, mixed with loess loam. Slightly inclined to the south-east, the vineyard is somewhat cooler than the Doosberg. The wine is matured in specially purchased Stockinger wooden barrels. The wine lies in the same barrel every year, whereby the wood influence decreases over the years, which is already noticeable in the 2016 vintage compared to the 2015.

Nose

What a wonderfully dense and intense nose of ripe pome and stone fruit combines here with deep spiciness and stoniness! Yellow pears and sugared apples and even a little bit of apricots one thinks to catch, before the notes of powdered stone, dry herbs and citrus zest dominate.

Palate

On the palate, the wine from the Hallgartener Jungfer first shows a creaminess that could not be guessed in the nose. Then the initially hidden fruit of yellow apple, ripe stone fruit and dried fruit becomes more and more present - as well as the underlying power and the vibrating minerality. The longer the wine lingers on the palate, the more of a textural wine it becomes, enveloping the tongue, offering savoury and salty notes as well as dark, stony spice. This is another showpiece from the Kühn collection, and in the process, a Großes Gewächs that has just sprinted off the starting block and still has a long run ahead of it.
