Wine Description for Ravazzol Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2016 1500ml Magnum by Ca´ La Bionda

Character
This Amarone, presented in a generous magnum bottle, impressively showcases the philosophy of the Castellani brothers: it focuses on finesse and balance rather than sheer, alcoholic heaviness. Despite its powerful stature, the wine retains a remarkable freshness and intellectual tension. On the palate, it is multi-layered with subtle notes of dried cherries, dark chocolate, and a fine, herbal-spicy vein reminiscent of a wild Pinot Noir. A monumental yet consistently elegant red wine with an aristocratic structure.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the heart of the estate: the renowned single vineyard site Ravazzol in the Marano Valley (Valpolicella Classico). Here, at an altitude of between 150 and 300 metres, the 50 to 70-year-old vines root on steep, terraced slopes with an east-southeast exposure. The limestone and clay-dominated soil gives the wine its fine, saline texture and a vibrant acidity that perfectly balances the ripe fruit.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The cuvée is based on the traditional varieties Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella. The Castellanis work strictly organically and rely on traditional methods in the cellar to bring the origin unadulterated into the glass. The wine ferments spontaneously with the grapes’ own yeasts and matures patiently in large wooden casks instead of barriques, which gives it its fine structure and wonderfully integrated tannins without pushing the wood into the foreground.
Food Pairings
Thanks to its structure and freshness, this Amarone is an excellent partner for rich, intensely flavoured dishes. It pairs superbly with braised beef, classic stews such as Brasato al Amarone, or mature, intense hard cheeses.
