Nose
The 2017 Vi naturel de Garnatxes en Àmfora shows itself wonderfully lush and warm and yet polished and precise. Here it smells of ripe plums and black cherries, but also a little of griotte, cranberries and red currants. Rounding out the fruit are rosemary and thyme, hay and cereal notes, a little bacon and burnt clay, juniper and violet flowers.
Palate
On the palate, the unsulphured wine shows the typical silky tannin that comes from aging in the amphora. At the same time, the tannin shows grip and a slight resistance. The fruit seems ripe and juicy and reminds of black cherries, blackberries and cassis. On the one hand the wine is dark and ripe, on the other it is taut and fresh, energetic and tonic with vibrant liveliness. The acidity and fruit is just as engaging as that stunningly charming tannin.
