A bold Meursault that treads the path of minimal intervention. Rougeot Père & Fils deliberately forgoes added sulphur in this cuvée – a commitment to purist winemaking that allows the Chardonnay to express itself unfiltered. The vineyard site „Sous la Velle“ lies at the foot of the famous hill and yields grapes with natural freshness and mineral tension. The 2022 vintage brought concentrated yet vibrant wines to Burgundy following a warm summer – ideal for this sulphur-free vinification, which depends on physiological ripeness and healthy grape material.
Terroir & Origin
Meursault is regarded as the epicentre of Burgundian Chardonnay cultivation. The soils here are characterised by limestone and marl, which lend the wine its distinctive structure. „Sous la Velle“ benefits from a slightly elevated position that provides good drainage and air circulation – crucial for healthy grapes, particularly when working without the protection of sulphur. The continental climate with cool nights preserves the acid structure, whilst the days offer sufficient warmth for ripeness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay in its Burgundian expression: complex, textured, earthy. The decision for Sans Sulfite Ajouté demands meticulous work in both vineyard and cellar.
