Wine description for Tannenberg DOC 2023 from Manincor
Colour & appearance
Brilliant, pale straw yellow with lively green reflections that emphasise the youth and freshness of this precise Sauvignon Blanc.
Nose
Remarkably disciplined flavour that immediately reveals the varietal typicity. Fully ripe tropical fruits are accompanied by a striking herbal-spicy component - passion fruit leaf, star fruit and freshly mown grass. With increasing aeration, grapefruit zest and a distinctive saline note unfold, accompanied by fine herbal nuances such as chervil, borage and lemon balm. An intellectual, terroir-influenced Sauvignon far removed from any market pandering.
Palate
The palate reveals a fruity, tart attack with an impressive texture - the result of the short maceration time. The juicy yellow fruit, dominated by grapefruit, is supported by a precise acid structure that gives the wine backbone and length. The subtle phenolics give the wine a pleasant grip. The finish is remarkably long, salty-tart and characterised by mineral precision - a testament to the sandy loam soil on weathered porphyry.
General information
This sauvignon blanc from the Lieben Aich vineyard in Terlan (300 metres above sea level) benefits from its south-westerly exposure and special terroir. The twelve-hour maceration period and spontaneous fermentation in wood followed by nine months on the lees give this wine complexity and depth. Perfectly balanced at 13.0% alcohol.
Food pairing suggestions
Excellent for Grilled sea bass with citrus flavours, Asparagus with wild garlic pesto or Goat's cheese soufflé. The herbal-spicy component harmonises wonderfully with Asian dishes with coriander and lemongrass.
