Wine description for the Sulzfelder Sauvignon Blanc trocken 2023 from Luckert - Zehnthof

Colour & appearance

Pale yellow with greenish reflections, clear and brilliant in the glass. The transparency already indicates the precise signature of the VdP winery.

Nose

An more striking, more focussed Sauvignon Blanc that combines the cool precision of Franconia with classic varietal flavours. Fresh gooseberries and citrus fruits dominate, underpinned by subtle hints of nettle and freshly mown grass. No exaggerated pyrazine emphasis, instead an elegant herbal spiciness reminiscent of mint and elderflower.

Palate

Taut and straightforward on the palate with an impressive acidity structure that gives the wine backbone and length. The 131TP13 tonnes of alcohol are perfectly integrated and give the wine body without compromising its finesse. The mineral undertone, typical of Franconian soils, shines through the fruit flavours and leads to a long, precise finish. The low residual sweetness emphasises the dry, purist character.

General information

With this 2023 vintage, the Luckert brothers have capitalised on the strengths of the warm summer without sacrificing elegance. Their Sauvignon Blanc epitomises the clarity and precision for which the winery is known. The craftsmanship that characterises the VdP winery is evident in every aspect of this wine.

Food pairing suggestions

Excellent for Goat cheese, Asparagus with hollandaise or Grilled sea bass. The lively acidity and herbal-spicy notes also harmonise wonderfully with Asian dishes with lemongrass and coriander. An ideal accompaniment to Seafoodespecially to Oysters and Shrimps.

Special features

This Sauvignon Blanc impressively demonstrates how the international grape variety can express itself in Franconia. Unlike its counterparts from New Zealand or the Loire Valley, it shows a more restrained, structure-emphasising interpretation with a pronounced minerality. With this wine, the Luckert brothers, celebrated by Stuart Pigott in the FAZ as the rising star of the year, demonstrate their extraordinary flair for terroir-true, characterful wines that are a worthy representation of the historic 16th century Zehnthof.
