Wine Description for Tokaji Furmint Demi-Sec 2018 from Királyudvar
- Colour & Appearance
- Radiant golden yellow with brilliant clarity – a visual promise of the opulence to follow.
- Nose
- A seductive wealth of aromas that shifts between orchard and patisserie. Quinces, yellow pears and peaches meet vanilla cream and fine pastries. These are joined by caramelised apples, the citrus freshness of kumquats and oranges, a hint of Earl Grey, orange blossom and the spicy bite of candied ginger.
- Palate
- Here the true class of this Demi-Sec reveals itself: silky, viscous, with impressive fruit depth. The yellow orchard unfolds once more, but is cleverly counterbalanced by bitter notes of grapefruit and bitter orange zest. Ginger, almonds and caramel round out the substantial texture. The real masterpiece, however, is the balance: a vibrant acidity and vibrating minerality effortlessly keep the 21 grams of residual sugar in check and lend the wine that tension and freshness which protects it from any heaviness.
- Finish
- Long, luminous and characterised by persistent freshness. The acidity carries through to the end, whilst fruit and mineral notes fade elegantly.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from the vineyard site Betsek in Tokaj, one of Hungary’s great wine regions. Biodynamic viticulture and hand-harvesting on 18 September 2018 testify to uncompromising quality orientation.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A blend of 85% Furmint and 15% Hárslevelű. Slow pressing in Huet presses, spontaneous fermentation in 5-hectolitre wooden vats of Slavonian oak, 18 months maturation. With 13.5% alcohol, 6.4 grams of acidity and a pH of 3.38, this demonstrates craftsmanship at the highest level.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Poached pike with beurre blanc, pointed cabbage rolls with roasted cauliflower or Cantonese pork belly with preserved greengages – the wine masters both fish and richer meat dishes with Asian flavours.
- Special Characteristics
- A Demi-Sec that proves residual sweetness and elegance need not be opposites. Királyudvar combines traditional Tokaj expertise with biodynamic philosophy to create a wine of remarkable finesse.
