Wine information
The Lapis is a wine made from 100 % Hárslevelü, the lime-leaf. The fruit comes from the Lapis vineyard and was harvested on 28 October 2011. After pressing and spontaneous fermentation, the wine was aged for five months in 5 hectolitre Slavonian oak wooden barrels and filled with 15.5 % alcohol, 32 grams of residual sugar and 6 grams of acidity.
Color
Light amber, tending to copper-coloured
Nose
The Lapis is a slightly tart and malty-scented Tokaji from the rather rare grape variety Hárslevelü, the lime-leaved. The wine already has an absolutely unique aroma and is slightly reminiscent of the bitter almond notes of cherry stones, grapefruit peel and bitter oranges as well as quince, ginger and verbena with nuts. Above all, however, the malty and smoky character stands out, slightly reminiscent of Islay whiskies.
Palate
The 2011s Tokaji Lapis Hárslevelü seems almost oily, concentrated and full-bodied on the palate at first. The sweetness lines the palate, but is quickly captured by the vibrant acidity and minerality as well as an impressive tannin. This is also a completely independent impression on the palate, at first even irritating because it is unusual, but this quickly gives way to enthusiasm for this creation. Viscous, creamy, then punchy and pushing forward, firm and tart, malty and smoky, citrusy and yellow-fruited is the wine, and all that at the same time.
