Tasting note from from 24.07.2023, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

The Pranzegg winery is named after the estate where Martin Gojer has been producing his wines since 2009 as a reflection of their origin, the vintage and the family's way of life. Above the Bolzano valley basin, Gojer's vineyards are farmed biodynamically by hand, and in the cellar, too, less is more Long fermentation and long maturation periods on the full lees with the addition of only small amounts of sulphur characterise the wines, which are always bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Pranzegg's GT from 100% Gewürztraminer was harvested early and kicked before being left on the skins for five days without temperature control. Fermented spontaneously with part of the crests, it lay in used chestnut tonneaux for six months before being placed in concrete until the following October.

Nose

The nose starts with the compound 'spice' and puts the first accents on this very part of the GT, the spice traminer, which is not allowed on the label because it is Vino Bianco. Mace, fresh yeast pastry with a citrus glaze and a little light tobacco outline the initial aromas, before it tentatively begins to trammel behind the distinctive aromas. Orange zest, dried mandarin oranges, a little hay flowers and chestnut honey give it a fruity tailwind without becoming loud or even wet.

Mouth

On the nose, it is enormously disciplined thanks to its ageing on the skins, the mash, to which it owes not only its aromatic complexity but also the fine, stimulating tannins. These give the inherently low-acid GT additional freshness, drinkability and vibration. A cup of freshly brewed Darjeeling, a slice of salt-buttered toast together with orange marmalade and a bouquet of flowers in the background of the picture surround it aromatically, while the floral excesses take place almost unobserved in the next room. The GT proves time and again that ageing on the skins is the weapon of choice for this grape variety and always leads to new, individual and highly exciting interpretations at the table.
