Tasting Notes for Espenyalluchs 2022 by Enric Soler

Colour & Appearance
Radiant pale gold in the glass.
Nose
An astonishingly captivating, almost cool aromatic profile with citrus notes, subtle smokiness and a noticeable stony minerality. Despite the Mediterranean vintage, the bouquet presents itself dense, focused and with timeless elegance.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is crystal-clear and vibrant. A crisp freshness meets a full-bodied, creamy texture. Alongside juicy pome fruit and fresh citrus, it captivates with fascinating complexity – all at a moderate 12.5% ABV.
Finish
The finish is precise and long-lasting, characterised by an invigorating, almost saline component.
Terroir & Origin
The wine originates from a single one-hectare plot in the Catalan region of Penedès (Sabanell, Alt Penedès). The microclimate benefits from cool nights at around 400 metres altitude and its proximity to both the Montserrat mountain range and the Mediterranean Sea.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Single-varietal Xarel·lo from biodynamic farming. The grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts. Maturation is puristic, carried out without concrete eggs in used 300-litre oak barrels.
Food Pairings
Outstanding with delicate halibut or a creamy mushroom risotto.
Key Features
Enric Soler, Spain’s Best Sommelier in 1997, demonstrates the world-class potential of the Xarel·lo grape variety here, advised by Ester Nin. Despite the extremely hot and dry 2022 vintage, this single-vineyard wine preserves a masterful balance and impressive freshness.
