About the wine
The vineyards of Oberrotweiler Eichberg, oriented south to southwest, are among the warmest terroirs. As early as 1994, these plots were planted with Burgundian Pinot clones. The volcanic soil brings out a robust Pinot Noir style.
For maturation
A prolonged ageing of 18 months in French barrique barrels, almost half of which is in new wood, gives this wine its unique structure.
Color
The overcast garnet red of this wine is a real feast for the eyes.
Aroma
The intense nose reveals the aromas of dark cherries, blackberries, mulberries and sloe in their full glory. Undertones of wood smoke, tobacco and cigar box add a masculine note that one would like to know more about.
Taste
On the palate, the 2020 Oberrotweiler Eichberg Spätburgunder 'Große Lage' conveys an experience of power and intensity. Juicy dark fruits, an invigorating acidity and a well-integrated wood spice result in a harmonious taste picture. This Spätburgunder has promising ageing potential and is happy to have strong companions on the plate.
Food suggestions
Try this walnut tartlet with Jerusalem artichoke and radicchio, or the venison goulash with prunes and caramelised red cabbage. A combination of venison paired with blueberries, porcini mushrooms and mashed potatoes would also be an excellent choice.
