Tasting note
Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow with seductive copper-coloured reflections – a first hint of the depth and maturity this wine promises.
Nose
The nose is opulent and inviting: ripe peach and pineapple compote meet dried apricots and delicate acacia blossom. Beneath shimmer honey, candied ginger and a whisper of anise – complex, charming, irresistible.
Palate
Powerful and creamy, this Grand Cru unfolds on the palate, carried by intense fruit fullness and an expansive, well-integrated sweetness. What saves it from heaviness: a precise acidity structure, vibrant minerality and an elegant saline note that lends the wine tension and depth.
Finish
Long-lasting, with lingering spice and a mineral aftertaste that unmistakably underscores the wine’s origin from Hengst. A wine that doesn’t let go.
Terroir & Origin
The Hengst ranks among Alsace’s most renowned Grand Cru vineyard sites, located in Wintzenheim. The subsoil of marl and sandstone grants the wine a fresh vibrancy in its youth, which transforms over the years into remarkable softness and maturity – a classic terroir for long-lived Pinot Gris.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Pinot Gris from Domaine Albert Mann, one of Alsace’s most reliable biodynamic estates. At 14.5% vol. and with pronounced yet structured residual sweetness, this wine moves in the style of a classic Alsatian Vendange-close Grand Cru – rich, but never clumsy.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This wine demands an equally worthy partner at table. Ideal with foie gras, Munster with caraway or a Thai curry with coconut milk. The combination of sweetness, acidity and spice makes it the perfect companion for spicy Asian cuisine, caramelised pork belly or blue cheese.
Special Characteristics
A wine with pronounced ageing potential. Those with patience will be rewarded in five to ten years with a wine of extraordinary complexity. Drinking it today is a pleasure – waiting is a virtue.
