This fascinating wine combines 50 % Niellucciu, 40 % Sciacaccarellu and 10 % Carcaghjolu Neru from hand-picked grapes grown on 30-year-old vines on sandy south-eastern slopes at 400-480 m altitude. After partially selected fruit, must production was carried out with wild yeasts in 40 hl barrels at 25°-30° C. A maceration of 45 days was followed by submerging of the must one to three times a day, after which the wine was matured for 14-18 months, finally without fining and only lightly filtered.
Beguiling violet-red, so rich and full that it appears almost opaque to the rim.
The 2020 Clos Venturi reveals itself as earthy and complex in the first instance. With a little air, it unfolds its charming fruitiness, characterised by sloe, sloe stone, blackcurrant, blackberry and elderberry. Seductive floral notes of violets and peonies resonate over all, complemented by smoky accents and aromas of rosemary, black olives and hard minerals.
The dense, dark fruit glides refreshingly over the tongue, carried by an inspiring and precise acidity and tannin structure that blend perfectly into the fruity fabric. The herbal notes, which are even more prominent on the palate than on the nose, make for an invigorating and pure impression. This red wine tastes best slightly chilled and is the ideal companion to rich dishes.
