Carcaghjolu Neru

The Corsican grape variety Carcaghjolu Neru – known as Caricagiola in nearby Sardinia – brings a profound, almost forgotten wildness to the wine world of Corsica. It is characterised by a dense, nearly opaque violet-red colour and a distinctive aromatic profile dominated by dark forest berries such as sloe and blackberry, accompanied by delicate nuances of violet and smoky, earthy notes. On the palate, it possesses a vital freshness and a striking tannic structure that provides its backbone.

Its characterful structure unfolds particularly beautifully in the classic marriage with Niellucciu and Sciaccarellu. At the Clos Venturi estate, this results in complex cuvées in which the spicy depth of the variety combines with cool elegance. These wines call for autumnal cuisine, wild thyme and slowly braised meat.
