Wine information

The Clos de la Cure is a new Chenin Blanc in the winery's portfolio. It comes from a very loamy and north-facing 0.4 hectare plot with white limestone in the subsoil. After late harvesting and whole cluster pressing, the Chenin Blanc was spontaneously fermented, underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged on its lees for eleven months in a 1,000-litre earthenware vessel.

Nose

It is the second year of the Clos de la Cure, and this one, too, seems timeless and classic. It smells of fullness, but a deliberately chosen, not overflowing fullness of pears, yellow apples and oranges, apple peel and orange peel, some wet stone and petrichor and the lanolin typical of Chenin Blanc. Overlying this is a cool note of rock spice and dry herbs.

Palate

On the palate, the Chenin Blanc shows an enormous juiciness of yellow fruits, which, however, does not seem exuberant here either, but flows calmly with an accompanying ripe but lively acidity and a very pleasantly present but fine spiciness. This is a wine with power and strength, but which is also a pleasure to drink solo, especially as the saltiness makes it easy to drink. The whole energy of the Clos de la Cure but only becomes clear in the interplay with powerful dishes.

Food recommendations by Christoph Raffelt

  • Pork belly with cinnamon flowers, kamebishiya and watermelons
  • Breton lobster with dashi vinegar and carrot puree according to Tim Raue
  • Lime chicken with wild herb risotto
