Nose

A subtle perfume of astonishing complexity unfolds in the glass. The first notes reveal fresh red cherries and wild strawberries, underpinned by a fine spiciness reminiscent of cinnamon bark and black pepper. With increasing aeration, hints of damp forest soil, dried rose petals and a hint of orange peel are added - that ethereal complexity that only Burgundy can deliver in its purest form. Here, organic cultivation is reflected in a remarkable clarity of expression.

Palate

On the palate, the wine impresses with its silky texture and precise structure. The moderate alcohol strength of 13.0% gives it power without creating heaviness. The acidity is lively, but perfectly integrated - it gives the wine that unnerving tension that characterises great Burgundy wines. The tannins are finely drawn, almost powdery in texture, and frame the fruit without dominating it. The finish is of medium length, characterised by subtle notes of sour cherries, white pepper and a subtle mineral component reminiscent of damp limestone.

General information

The 2021 vintage posed considerable challenges for winegrowers in Burgundy - late frosts in spring, followed by a wet summer, required precise work in the vineyard. Galeyrand, whose vineyards have been certified organic since 2019, overcame these hurdles with impressive composure. His intensive work in the vineyard allows him to minimise intervention in the cellar - an approach that promotes the purity of terroir expression.

Er harmoniert wunderbar mit Roast duck breast with cherry sauce, coq au vin or a classic Boeuf Bourguignon. Vegetarian connoisseurs will love the combination with Mushroom risotto or Roasted beetroot carpaccio with goat's cheese to appreciate. The restrained nature of the wine also makes it the ideal companion for medium-aged Comté or Époisses - those cheeses that, like the wine itself, epitomise the essence of Burgundy.
