Wine Description for Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru „Les Chabiots“ AOC 2022 by Hubert Lignier
- Colour & Appearance
- Medium, quite transparent ruby red – typical of the delicate character of Chambolle-Musigny. The clarity in the glass already promises the elegance that will follow.
- Nose
- A fine, aristocratic nose that perfectly reflects the terroir of Les Chabiots. Rose petals and wild strawberries dominate, accompanied by red cherries and a subtle herbal spice. A hint of white pepper lends additional complexity to the bouquet – pure Chambolle elegance.
- Palate
- On the palate, the true finesse of this Premier Cru reveals itself: clear, transparent and lively. The herbal notes lead to the red fruits and floral nuances of the nose. The tannin structure is finely woven, never intrusive – the result of shorter maceration time and gentle pressing. The elegant acidity gives the wine tension and drinkability. A sensual Pinot Noir that combines substance with lightness.
- Finish
- Sensual finale with good length, the red fruits linger, accompanied by floral hints and a fine mineral note.
- Terroir & Origin
- Les Chabiots lies in a privileged location south of Chambolle, above the legendary Les Amoureuses and in close proximity to the Grand Crus of Musigny. Despite its small size and modest renown, this vineyard reveals enormous potential. The vines date from 1997.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Pinot Noir, vinified with 33% whole bunches. In 2022, Hubert Lignier opted for a modern, gentle vinification: shorter maceration times (15-17 instead of 20 days), minimal punch-downs, infusion rather than aggressive extraction, gentle pressing. The hot, dry 2022 vintage was saved by heavy rainfall at the end of June, which helped the vines overcome water stress. Early harvest from 1st September.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Roasted quail, Coq au Vin, duck breast roasted pink, aged Comté or Époisses. Also excellent with mushroom dishes such as porcini risotto or tuna tataki.
- Special Features
- A Premier Cru from an underrated vineyard site that demonstrates that alongside Les Amoureuses, other parcels in Chambolle can also achieve greatness. The modern, low-extraction vinification emphasises finesse over power – contemporary Burgundy at its finest.
