Wine Description for Bourgogne Chardonnay AOC 2023 by Thomas Morey

Colour & Appearance
Intense straw yellow with a fresh, slightly green reflection – a wine that already displays its youthful energy in the glass.
Nose
A fascinating calling card of the Morey house: The opening surprises with a subtle gunflint note, reminiscent of mineral precision. Behind this unfolds an aromatic fruit palette that is almost Riesling-like in character – ripe citrus fruits, juicy apricots, yellow plums and pears meld with almonds and nuts. The southern influence from Mâcon and Chalonnais lends the wine a welcome opulence.
Palate
Juicy, fruity and hedonistic: Here it is not Burgundian acidity tension that dominates, but rather a mineral texture with hints of tea, light smokiness and yellow fruit. The warmth of the 2023 vintage is perceptible, yet perfectly integrated. An open, inviting Chardonnay that combines accessibility with substance.
Finish
Medium-length with a pleasant freshness and a fine nutty note that lingers.
Terroir & Origin
A skilful blend from various parcels in Chassagne-Montrachet (75%), complemented by 10% from the Mâconnais and 15% from the Chalonnais. This blend lends the wine complexity and balance between Burgundian finesse and southern fullness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in a combination of neutral barrel and tank. The malolactic fermentation proceeds naturally, with the wine ageing on its lees without bâtonnage. With only 20% new oak and minimal sulphur addition (maximum 35 mg/l), this reflects a philosophy that gives the wine room to develop.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Pan-seared scallops, lobster with butter, porcini risotto, veal escalope in cream sauce, grilled monkfish or Comté of medium maturity.
Special Features
An exemplary Bourgogne Chardonnay that demonstrates what is possible when craftsmanship meets clear vision. Perfect for entering the Morey portfolio – and proof that great wines need not always be Premier Cru.
