The development of BattenfeldSpanier is unrivalled in Germany. At the end of the 1990s, a young winegrower appeared out of nowhere and presented wines from a corner of Rheinhessen that no one had on their radar. Nobody had ever heard of Hohen-Sülzen. Hans Oliver Spanier, actually just called H.O., was and is always convinced that great wines have an origin and so he has built up one of the best wineries in Germany through continuous development. The numerous awards, including "Winemaker of the Year" in 2018, emphasise the exceptional quality of the wines. Working consistently organically from the outset and now biodynamically, H.O. Spanier can certainly be described as the vine expert. BattenfeldSpanier now cultivates plots in the magnificent vineyards of the Wonnegau, such as KIRCHENSTÜCK, FRAUENBERG and ZELLERWEG AM SCHWARZEN HERRGOTT.
