Wine Description for A l’Aube de la Côte des Bar Brut Nature 2013 1500ml Magnum by Louise Brison

Character
Louise Brison belongs to the new generation of Récoltant-Manipulant Champagnes, working with artisanal precision and uncompromising authenticity. This Brut Nature from the 2013 vintage forgoes dosage entirely, presenting itself in its purest form – an unvarnished portrait of the Côte des Bar. The magnum bottle underscores the ageing potential and seriousness of this Champagne, which deliberately distinguishes itself from the mainstream of the grandes maisons.
Terroir & Origin
The Côte des Bar in the southern Aube département forms the historic heart of Champagne, long before the region around Reims and Épernay achieved world renown. The Kimmeridgian limestone soils – geologically related to Chablis – lend the wines a characteristic minerality and tension. The more continental climate with warmer summers enables fuller ripeness, which is reflected in the structure and depth of these Champagnes. Louise Brison cultivates a terroir-driven philosophy here, which impressively showcases the character of this often underestimated sub-region.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir unites finesse with substance. Pinot Noir, traditionally dominant in the Côte des Bar, provides the structural backbone and depth, whilst Chardonnay contributes elegance and precision. The 2013 vintage is considered cool and classic, with pronounced acidity – ideal for a Brut Nature that must manage without cosmetic dosage. The extended lees ageing in magnum ensures additional complexity and a finer mousse. The moderate alcohol content of 12.5% vol. underscores the elegance and drinkability.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The uncompromising dryness and vibrant acidity make this Champagne the ideal companion for raw oysters, scallop carpaccio or sashimi. It also reveals its full class alongside aged Comté, pan-fried turbot or sweetbreads. The magnum size makes it perfect for celebratory occasions with poached lobster or a multi-course menu.
