In the glass

  1. Colour

Pale, brilliant straw yellow with greenish reflections.

  2. Nose

Fresh citrus notes and green apple from the Sauvignon Blanc, complemented by delicate stone fruit and nutty nuances from the Chardonnay, along with a subtle herbal spice from the Welschriesling.

  3. Palate

Juicy and linear with vibrant acidity, a taut body and a clear, mineral-driven finish.

  4. Character

Concentrated yet full of finesse – a composed, harmonious wine that combines power with elegance, entirely in the style of the Velich brothers.

  5. Pairing

An ideal companion to freshwater fish, asparagus dishes and light poultry; also an excellent match for Asian vegetable dishes.

  6. Notes

A rare cuvée of three classic grape varieties from the Seewinkel region, bottled in a generous magnum format – thanks to its slower maturation in the 1500 ml bottle, it is particularly long-lived and perfect for convivial occasions.

Tasting note

Character
A dry white wine of quiet conviction: taut, clear, without any loudness. The cuvée of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Welschriesling combines aromatic freshness with depth and that cool elegance which distinguishes all wines from Apetlon. Wines from this estate do not seek to impress – they persuade layer by layer, and in the large Magnum format they gain additional maturation time and developmental tranquillity.
Terroir & Origin
Apetlon lies on the south-eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl, where the Pannonian climate makes its presence particularly felt: hot, dry summers, cold winters, sharp temperature fluctuations. The soils of limestone and gravel, interspersed with sand, are considered the ideal foundation for great Burgenland white wine. Heinz and Roland Velich have built an estate here since the early 1990s that sets international benchmarks without denying its regional roots.
Grape Varieties & Vinification
The assemblage plays the strengths of three varieties off one another: Sauvignon Blanc contributes herbal spice and tension, Chardonnay – the life’s work of the estate – provides structure and substance, while Welschriesling ensures drinkability with lively acidity and subtle fruit. Velich works with minimal yields, meticulous selection and without oenological tricks; spontaneous fermentation and extended lees ageing are established practice here. The result: wines that need time and deserve it.
Food Pairings
A versatile table wine for dishes with finesse: steamed pike-perch with herb butter, Viennese fried chicken, asparagus in vinaigrette or young goat’s cheese. It also shows itself composed and alert alongside Asian dishes with lemongrass and coriander. At 12.5% abv it remains light-footed enough for long evenings – and thanks to the Magnum, there is plenty for the whole table.
