Tasting note
- Colour & appearance
- Bright, translucent purple with violet reflections – a wine that reveals its youthful freshness and lightness even in the glass.
- Nose
- Intense and fresh: sweet dark cherries, blackberries and blueberries meet floral notes of violets and roses. These are joined by charming spicy hints of vanilla and nutmeg – an aromatic profile reminiscent of the complex herbal side of Corvina, the variety that Alessandro Castellani describes as “wild Pinot Noir”.
- Palate
- Charming, light-footed and easy-drinking. The moderate alcohol of just 12.0% ABV makes it the ideal red wine for warm days – stimulating, refreshing, with a drinkability that has become rare in this region. Here the signature of the Castellani brothers is evident: elegance rather than power, freshness rather than concentration.
- Finish
- Fresh and clear, with fine minerality derived from the calcareous soils of the Marano Valley.
- Terroir & origin
- The grapes come from the historic Valpolicella Classico zones of Marano and Fumane. On terraced slopes between 150 and 300 metres with an east-southeast exposure, the vines grow in clay and limestone soils – a terroir that lends the wines their typical minerality and elegance.
- Grape varieties & vinification
- Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella – the classic trio of Valpolicella. Fermentation was carried out with wild yeasts, entirely in keeping with the traditional approach that the estate has cultivated organically since 2012.
- Food recommendations
- A wine for antipasti, pasta with light tomato sauces, grilled vegetables or mild salami. Also a delight with pizza or a simple risotto.
- Special features
- While many producers focus on powerful Amarone wines, the Castellani brothers have deliberately dedicated vineyard sites to the production of first-class Valpolicella Classico. This 2024 proves that greatness does not require high alcohol – a wine of refreshing clarity and unpretentious depth.
