Espadeiro

The red grape variety Espadeiro is deeply rooted in the cool, damp, Atlantic-influenced north-west of the Iberian Peninsula. Found primarily in Galicia’s Rías Baixas, it produces wines that captivate with their distinctive freshness, a vibrant acidity and fine, red-fruited aromas of sour cherry and blackcurrant. Espadeiro possesses the rare gift of conveying a dense juiciness and saline minerality despite a rather delicate colour – qualities that pair beautifully with robust fish dishes. Just how harmoniously this autochthonous speciality performs alongside its partners Pedral and Sousòn is demonstrated by the red cuvée Xion from Attis Bodegas y Vinedos. Here one senses how wonderfully carefree and yet profound the red Atlantic style can truly be.
