Baga

Anyone who embraces the Portuguese Baga encounters a grape variety of enormous depth and structural power. Native to the north and centre of Portugal, it shapes wines with vibrant acidity and striking, tightly-woven tannins that guarantee a long life. Its aromatic spectrum ranges from dark wild berries and sour cherries to an ethereal spice reminiscent of undergrowth and dried herbs. On the barren granite soils of the Dão, the grape reveals a particularly mineral, delicate side.

How lively this variety acts in interplay with ancient vines is demonstrated by Niepoort with the Conciso Tinto, in which the Baga is complemented by its partner Jaen. Grown on vines over a hundred years old, the result is a fine, red-fruited wine that brings the cool spice of the terroir into the glass with artisanal precision and an animating flow.
