Wine description for Rosé Petit Bonheur IGP 2024 from Majas
Visual impression
In the glass, the Petit Bonheur rosé is a delicate, almost translucent pale pink with a silvery rim - like the first morning light rising over the limestone hills of Roussillon. The transparency already hints at the finesse that characterises this wine.
Nose
The flavours unfold in multi-layered waves. Initially, we encounter floral notes of mallow and hollyhock - typical wild flowers that grow between the rows of vines at Domaine de Majas. This is followed by a basket full of rosehips, slightly tart sour cherries and wild wild strawberries, reminiscent of the barren slopes of Roussillon. A hint of orange zest adds a subtle citrus flavour. What particularly characterises this wine is the clear presence of Mediterranean herbs - Sage, Chervil and Borage - which bear witness to the dry, windy conditions of this region and give the wine an unmistakable garrigue-like signature.
Palate
On the palate, the 2024 Petit Bonheur shows exactly the transparency and precision that you would expect from an artisan wine. The combination of Syrah and Cabernet Franc - not traditional Roussillon grape varieties, but interpreted here with remarkable sensitivity - delivers a juicy attack with crystal-clear fruit. Natural fermentation with wild yeasts and ageing in concrete vats on fine lees without added sulphur have created a subtle texture and stimulating phenolics that give the wine structure without compromising its lightness. The moderate residual sweetness (the lowest level) emphasises the dry, precise character of this wine, while the alcohol content of 12.5% is perfectly balanced.
What is particularly impressive is the light-heartedness of this wine - it carries the sun of the south without ever appearing heavy or overloaded. It flows over the palate with a natural elegance that testifies to the careful, minimalist winemaking.
General information
The history of Domaine de Majas is closely linked to organic farming. Since 2007, Agnès and Alain Carrère have been cultivating their vineyards according to organic principles, advised by Tom Lubbe, the pioneer of Domaine Matassa. The diversity of their soils - clay, limestone and slate - is reflected in the expressiveness of their wines. While their Carignan, Grenache and Macabeu vines, which are over 120 years old, represent the estate's historical heritage, newer plantings such as Syrah and Cabernet Franc, which are used in this rosé, demonstrate their openness to innovation.
Petit Bonheur 2024 epitomises the winery's artisanal philosophy: hand-picking, direct pressing, spontaneous fermentation with its own yeasts and ageing in concrete on the fine lees. The absence of filtration and the minimal addition of sulphur during bottling preserve the natural vibrancy of the wine.
Food pairing suggestions
This rosé is a versatile accompaniment to Mediterranean summer cuisine. Its herbaceous notes harmonise wonderfully with grilled vegetables and Goat's cheese tart. The fresh fruit and stimulating texture make it the ideal partner for Seafood - especially for a classic Bouillabaisse or simply prepared Sardines from the grill. Also to Tapas and light Charcuterie platters he offers a refreshing counterbalance. In his home country, he would undoubtedly be Summer ratatouille or one Pissaladière those simple but expressive dishes that, like this wine, capture the essence of the southern French way of life.
