Nose
A lot of lemon, lemon juice as well as the white mesocarp of the lemon and some volatile acidity reminiscent of cucumber water are rather indicative of the unfinished state of the wine, respectively point to the wrong time of its presentation. With increasing aeration, however, such supposed deficiencies prove to be fleeting and allow a clear view of the wine, which may nevertheless present itself very tentatively and never proclaimingly.
Mouth
The 2018 Ölberg Riesling Großes Gewächs from Kai Schätzel impresses with its uncompromising acidity and citrusy, taut nature. No mercy, no hostages, but Riesling for the intrepid with high acid tolerance. Straightforward and animating, it still appears aromatically restrained due to its youthful character. Ethereally cool, mineral finish with delicate vegetal notes of brook mint.
