Colour & Appearance

Pale, sparkling golden yellow with green reflections – a youthful lustre that already announces the concentration of this extraordinary vintage.

Nose

Initially restrained in youth, revealing a compact, mineral slate spice. After aeration – decanting is essential! – an enchanting aromatic spectrum unfolds: apple, lemon, sweet pear, ripe pineapple, floral honey and elderflower interweave into a finely articulated, elegant bouquet of remarkable complexity.

Palate

The pronounced minerality of grey slate forms the backbone of this wine. Juicy pale fruit meets a multifaceted, pronounced sweetness at just 7.5% alcohol – a masterpiece of balance. The sweet-acid interplay is of positively electrifying precision: the residual sweetness never feels heavy, but is perfectly captured by the racy Mosel acidity. A wine of impressive length and elegance.

Finish

Long, mineral and with persistent fruitiness. The slate spice lingers and leaves a crystal-clear, vibrant impression.

Terroir & Origin

The Pündericher Marienburg ranks among the great vineyard sites of the Mosel. South to south-west facing steep slopes on weathered grey slate, vines over 30 years old – ideal conditions for world-class Riesling. Clemens Busch manages this VDP Grosse Lage biodynamically.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Fully ripe Riesling grapes with approximately 10% botrytis content are selectively harvested. Spontaneous fermentation in old wooden fuder casks, cooled at 7.5% alcohol and separated from the lees. Bottling in May – a classic Mosel Spätlese made using traditional methods.

Food Pairing Recommendations

Excellent with foie gras, blue cheese such as Roquefort, spicy Asian dishes with sweet-spicy contrast, apple tart or lemon desserts. Also a meditative wine on its own.

Special Features

A wine for eternity – with enormous ageing potential of two decades and beyond. Definitely decant young or bring patience. The gold capsule signals a special selection within the Spätlese category. Clemens Busch belongs to the absolute elite of German Riesling producers.
