Wine Description for Riesling L’Épicentre Schlossberg 2009 375ml from Domaine Albert Mann

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, bright golden yellow with sparkling reflections that intensify towards the rim – a visual promise of concentrated sweetness and ageing potential.
Nose
Beguilingly complex: lime and citrus fruits meet ripe apricots and pineapple. Beneath lies a fascinating saline component and stony minerality reminiscent of wet granite rock. Elderflower cordial and blossom honey lend the bouquet an elegant, floral sweetness without any heaviness.
Palate
Here the true artistry reveals itself: the sweetness is present but never intrusive. A vibrant acidity holds the wine in perfect balance, making it virtually dance across the tongue. The saline minerality of the Schlossberg runs through the entire flavour profile, lending this sweet wine rarity a remarkable lightness of foot. At just 10.5% alcohol, the wine feels almost weightless – a prime example of finesse over opulence.
Finish
Long, cool and mineral with an echo of citrus peel and fine salinity. The sweetness fades elegantly whilst the freshness lingers on the palate for minutes.
Terroir & Origin
The legendary Schlossberg near Kaysersberg is one of the steepest and sunniest Grand Crus in Alsace. The granite bedrock imparts its characteristic stony minerality and precision to the wines – qualities that shine brilliantly even in this noble sweet Riesling.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Riesling in its noblest form: Domaine Albert Mann, biodynamic pioneers in Alsace, allow the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. The name „L’Épicentre“ suggests a selection from the heart of the parcel – where the terroir expresses itself most intensely.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Classic with lime parfait with fresh wild raspberries or strawberries with elderflower sorbet. Also exciting in a savoury version: gratinated goat’s cheese with warm apricot-ginger ragout, where the wine’s sweetness counterbalances the cheese’s salinity.
Special Features
A sweet wine that defies all clichés: light-footed rather than heavy, mineral rather than jammy, dancing rather than clumsy. The 375ml half-bottle format is the perfect size for this treasure, which can age for years to come.
