Wine Description for LIL‘ KRA XXIII Komet Rosso IGT 2023 by Alois Lageder

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, bright garnet red with lively violet reflections – a glass that already promises lightness and freshness to the eye.
Nose
The nose is immediately seductive: sour cherry, jostaberry and blueberry meet a whisper of cassis. Beneath this, fine notes of graphite and fresh herbs weave through, lending the bouquet depth and complexity without clouding the freshness.
Palate
On the palate, this Pinot Noir unfolds with remarkable lightness and elegance. The spectacularly low alcohol of 11.5% vol. allows the fruit to shine unimpeded. The tannin is refined and silky, the acidity ripe, invigorating and precisely pitched. A dancing, fine-boned red wine that reveals South Tyrol from its unexpected, cool-elegant side.
Finish
Medium-length, fresh and characterised by juicy berry fruit – the finish remains invigorating and leaves you wanting the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from a new single vineyard site in Eppan, one of South Tyrol’s most renowned Pinot Noir locations. Planted anew in 2020, the vineyard experiment unites 20 different clones and mass selections on different rootstocks – a laboratory of diversity that is destined to flow into the legendary Krafuss in the future.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder). Fermentation took place over 7 days in large wooden vessels, without whole bunches – a deliberately gentle approach. The wine subsequently matured for 16 months in large wooden casks, ensuring integration without over-extraction.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ideal with spiced dishes of all kinds – wild mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, lamb chops or an uncomplicated charcuterie board. Recommendation: serve lightly chilled, at around 14–16 °C.
Special Features
The LIL‘ KRA XXIII is the vintage 2023 – the very first harvest from this young vineyard site. A debut that already reveals extraordinary potential. If you want to follow the development of the future Krafuss, you should start here – whilst stocks last.
